Bistro 5 has received rave reviews since its opening in May of 1999.

The significant expansion of the restaurant completed in May 2002 transformed Bistro 5 from a diminutive neighborhood gem into a high-end dining experience. Chef/Owner Vittorio Ettore has been lauded by the press. But the loyal following of regular Bistro 5 patrons is perhaps its most important review.

50 Best Restaurants, by Boston Magazine Italy by way of the 'burbs... Vittorio Ettore's modern Italian menu is absolutely worth the trek, with hands down the best homemade gnocchi around (and we've tried them all); addictively spicy Wellfleet clams with pancetta; and a sea-scallop risotto accented with grapefruit. The mood is as relaxed and unpretentious as the food is serious, and the prices (all entrées are under $30) make this a bargain compared with in-town restaurants of similar quality.

Boston Common Magazine... When it comes to carving pumpkins, no one holds a candle to Vittorio Ettore, chef-owner of Bistro 5, an intimate Italian restaurant in Medford. That’s because Ettore’s tiny orange pumpkins come to the table not sporting toothy grins, but stuffed with creamy pumpkin risotto crowned with honey-brown scallops, meaty chanterelles and a fragrant truffle coulis. Warm, earthy, golden and sweet, this dish captures the essence of autumn. It also sums up what Ettore does best: Transform New England’s ripest, freshest ingredients into beautifully crafted dishes that are rooted in Italy, inspired by the seasons and served from the heart.

The Boston Globe reports... "Ettore has transformed Bistro 5 into a sophisticated dining experience with the genial atmosphere, imaginative food, and personal attention you'd find in a neighborhood gem. I only wish I'd discovered it sooner."

Boston.com... "A touch of Magic in Medford"... "It looks dark and somber. But once we slip through the door and around the corner into the dining room, it's clear there is nothing somber about Bistro 5."... "Chef Vittorio Ettore shifts his menu with the seasons"... "The sweet potato gnocchi ($24, $12 half-portion) are the stars of the evening."... "At Bistro 5, the gnocchi really do float"

Boston Magazine writes... "Bistro 5 has a small intimate feel and hip decor. These stylish environs are a perfect compliment to Ettore's food"

Zagat rates Bistro 5 among Boston's top restaurants and awards its food a 27! "An oasis of creative fine dining" "This charming bistro in West Medford has made a niche for itself with its fabulous, downtown quality northern Italian fare, artful presentations and personal care, admirers are easily won over by inventive chef-owner Vittorio Ettore, who pays attention to every detail and provides for a pampering evening".
